Here are a few more photos of the 1/600 scale science fiction city, now completely finished, together with a few long-range shots of the jungle.
As you can see, the "towers emerging from the hatches" pieces became something else entirely. In thinking that they are city-sized shield projectors or point-defence systems. Or something. Yeah, that's the ticket. My old plastic and wood block-based buildings form a suburb to the left.

Just Awesome! Thank you for posting such a great city.
ReplyDeleteHere's the really cool thing: the architecture of the city reflects its surroundings. That is, round buildings and round vegetation. That makes the scenery very believable.
ReplyDeleteFabulous stuff! The more I look at it though, the more I think of Flash Gordon - Ming the Merciless' palace, maybe....all it needs is some rocketships.
ReplyDeleteThat was kind of the idea, SoS. I wanted it to immediately evoke a sci-fi feeling. I think that's necessary at this scale, because 1/600 is far too small for a spectator to grasp what the theme of the game is with a quick look at the figs alone.
ReplyDeleteSo I had basically 3 types of architecture to choose from: GW-style gothic, near-future style über-bauhaus, or Ming the Merciless. I went with Ming.
Thanks, Anonymous, but that effect is totally serendipidous. You're right, however: it does tie it all together thematically.
