Looks good, I'm tempted by the rules myself - have you played them ?Cheers
Not yet' but soon!
Very nice indeed!
Looking sharp and they stand out very nicely against the bases.
The labels are actually light blue. They look washed out from here.
Very nice; we will look forward to your first play of the rules and review of them!
Looks great! Combined with Blackhawkhet /Just Jack posting about 5core BC I'm sorely tempted...
Anything i can do to tempt you? ;)
I think I'm sold, I like the look of the 5Core skirmish "not-quite-a-freebie" 1st ed, so I'll be downloading a copy of BC from Wargames Vault today, I think :D
Huzzah! Let me know if you have questions and do stop by the yahoogroup :-)
I shall indeedy :DBeen perusing the rules and looks good, I like the basic framework and it might be a good excuse for some 3mm as I can't face rebasing my legions of 6mm ;)
3mm is a damn fine scale. It took me years to get onboard with them but as soon as I got them, I regretted not doing it sooner.
I've been half looking for an excuse for OO mini's for a bit, and this might well be it :DDon't know whether to go with a "Red vs Blue" force which is very tempting or go historical. Will float at the club and see, I think!
I did see that :)I'd likely just make up stuff, it's worked for AK-47 onwards :DYou never know though, I've been tempted by dafter!
Making up stuff works wonderfully well :)
3mm is a "free" scale, like I always say. Normal objections don't apply. It's so relatively cheap and easy to paint that there is really no reason NOT to buy it. It's not like it competes with other scales for your attention. And even if you do 6mm already, 3mm lets you do a convenient travel game or build armies you normally wouldn't.This one here cost me about 18 bucks.
Very very true. Heck, it's the first time I've seriously considered Napoleonics :)
I even have some Austrians and Prussians to do the Seven Weeks in 1866... not a period I ever thought likely! The only thing with 3mm is that looking at the price I have a tendency to get carried away and want to mount about the right number of real world vehicles on a base, thus making it actually twice as expensive as using 6mm :D
It's what finally got me into battalion-scale Napoleonics, Ivan. The only objection I have is that O8's stuff is so good that there's a constant temptation to paint it perfectly, so that you can get all the detail --- which, of course, won't be seen at all and actually mucks up the visual effect of these figs when seen at arm's length.I have to constantly tell myself "No.... no.... no..." when painting this guys, as well as "go lighter... go lighter... go lighter...". That's why I've finally decided on yellow basing flock: it maximizes the reflected light. Of course, Forward March Studio's use of dull green static grass is good, too. If I could get dull green flocking, I might go that route. Also, your point is well noted, Pixie. I don't jam my bases with vehicles. I find that two is more than enough to give a nice mass effect. But what I do tend to do is buy everything I could ever possibly want in 3mm. My new 3mm Seven Years War project, for example. I will have 15 infantry and 6 cavalry regiments to paint up for that one. In any other scale, that'd be more than enough to get me started. In 3mm, however, I kept on saying to myself "Well, what I'd REALLY like are 24 infantry regiments and at least 16 cavalry regiments...."With the real now clocking at 5 to the pound, I had to check my enthusiasm and say "Just buy what you are likely to paint this year, Thad."
I know what you mean - the aforementioned 1866 Prussians started out a dark-ish blue (I didn't want to start with "actual" colour, as it'd be too dark). And I still ended up at least two shades lighter again so there's some contrast and you can see what they are not just blue-ish/black blobs.Got to keep it simple and striking!
